Bluub — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 4 September 2026 · Otherdays Studio
Bluub is made by Otherdays Studio, based in the United Kingdom. You can reach us at lovish@otherdays.studio.
The short version
Bluub is a notes app you talk to. Everything you say is turned into text on your phone and stays on your phone. We don't have an account for you, a server for your notes, or any way to see them. We collect nothing.
What we don't collect
- No account. There is nothing to sign up for.
- No audio. What the microphone hears is turned into text on the device and the sound is discarded as it goes. No recording is ever written to disk, by us or by the app.
- No notes. Your transcripts and the tidied versions never leave the device unless you turn on iCloud backup, which copies them to your own iCloud (see below).
- No analytics, no crash reporting of our own, no advertising identifiers, no tracking of any kind.
- No third-party data collection. The one library the app includes, Pulsar, drives the Taptic Engine and sends nothing anywhere.
What stays on your device
- Your notes: the words as spoken, the tidied version, and a few tags the on-device model writes to help search. These are stored in the app's private storage.
- A copy of your notes in the device Keychain, so they survive if you delete and reinstall the app. This copy is marked for this device only. It is not synced to iCloud Keychain and does not travel in a backup to another device. Deleting a note in Bluub removes it from this copy too.
- Your settings: cleanup level, theme, appearance, and whether iCloud backup is on.
The models
Transcription uses Apple's on-device speech recognition. The cleanup and the search tags use Apple's on-device language model. Both run entirely on your iPhone. Nothing is sent to Apple or to us for processing, and nothing you say is used to train any model. These models can mishear or mis-tidy; hold a note to see exactly what you said.
Microphone
Bluub asks for microphone access the first time you record. It listens only while the recording pill is on screen, and stops the moment you stop or discard. It never listens in the background.
iCloud backup (optional)
If you turn on Automatic iCloud backup in Settings, Bluub writes a copy of your notes to your own iCloud Drive, in a folder named Bluub that you can see in the Files app. That copy is stored under your Apple Account and governed by Apple's iCloud terms and privacy policy. We cannot read it. It is rewritten after every change while the switch is on, and used to restore your notes on a fresh install or a new phone. Turn the switch off and Bluub stops writing it; delete the file in Files to remove it.
Purchases
Bluub Pro is a one-time purchase made through Apple's App Store. Apple handles the payment and knows about the purchase; we receive no personal information from it. Restore Purchases asks Apple whether your Apple Account owns Pro. Refunds are handled by Apple.
Siri and Shortcuts
The "Take a Note" action opens Bluub already recording. Using it through Siri or the Action Button is handled by Apple's systems on your device; Bluub receives only the instruction to start.
Data retention
Your notes stay until you delete them. Deleting a note in Bluub removes it from the app, from the Keychain copy, and from the iCloud backup file on its next write. Deleting the app removes the app's storage; the Keychain copy remains until you install Bluub again and delete the notes, or erase the device. We hold nothing, so there is nothing for us to retain or delete.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, EU GDPR, and laws such as California's CCPA, you have rights over personal data an organisation holds about you: to access it, correct it, delete it, and object to its use. Bluub is built so that we hold none. Every note is on your device, in your control, and you can read, export (Pro), or delete it yourself at any time. If you believe we hold any data about you, write to us and we will answer within 30 days. If you are in the UK you may also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office; in the EU, to your local supervisory authority.
Children
Bluub is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age.
Security
Your notes are protected by your device's own security: the passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, and Apple's data protection. The Keychain copy uses the device's Keychain, which is encrypted. The iCloud backup file is protected by Apple's iCloud encryption and, if you have it on, Advanced Data Protection.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and any change that matters will be described in the app's release notes. Continuing to use Bluub after a change means you accept it.
